Crypto-Fueled Healthcare Access in America
What if crypto could drive access to quality healthcare for thousands facing barriers to care? Imagine a future where blockchain technology doesn’t just power digital currencies but also drives access and accountability in healthcare. What if the resulting story convinced remaining skeptics and influential policymakers that crypto is a force for good in society?
I am excited to unveil an opportunity for the crypto community to make a consequential impact on health equity in America by supporting Sostento, a 501c3 nonprofit that envisions a world where nobody falls through the cracks of our health system. The goal is to raise $500,000 in crypto donations to scale up an initiative that delivers health access rides with Uber to patients living below the poverty line.
Each health access ride costs approximately $20 USD or .00033 of a bitcoin (33,000 sats). Hitting our goal would mean delivering 20,000 health-access rides for people in need.
Since 2023 Sostento has delivered over 34,000 health access rides at no cost to low-income patients for purposes including primary care, behavioral and mental health, maternal and newborn care, prescription medicine access, oral health, and much more. There is a long waiting list of free and charitable clinics and patients who need access to these rides, and while we have support from governments, corporations, and foundations, it is not moving fast enough or at a size that can keep up with those needing help.
With the power of crypto, we can help thousands get the healthcare they need.
Why Crypto
Millions of Americans lacking access to healthcare fall into a gap that neither the government nor the private sector can effectively bridge. Given crypto’s power as an alternative to centralized institutions, it is a perfect partner to complement Sostento’s established government, corporate, and foundation funders, driving innovation and healthcare access.
The Web3 community has shown up for Sostento before. We’ve run an NFT charity auction with the Cool Cats, a charitable minting event with ArtBlocks, and established partnerships with crypto charity platforms The Giving Block and Endaoment. There’s growing a network of people and projects accelerating on-chain actions and the momentum for real-world applications is growing. Sostento, as a late-stage startup ready to scale, is uniquely positioned to become a compelling story of enormous social impact that can resonate in the crypto space and beyond.
Using Crypto to Take Uber to the Moon
When Sostento raises $500,000 in crypto, the combined distance of Uber rides that we will be able to deliver for health access will surpass a total of 238,900 miles. That’s the distance from the Earth to the Moon. We’ve already hit that distance once, through rides delivered in our initiative over the past year. It took 5,000 unique riders across 14 states, coordinated by 112 different community health workers at 30 unique clinic locations. Crypto donations can help us reach that moon distance again in half the time by enabling new clinics to adopt our rides.
Ready to help? Tax-exempt crypto donations to Sostento can be made in Bitcoin, Ethereum, and many other cryptocurrencies via The Giving Block, Endaoment, or on Sostento.org. Fiat, stock, or donations through a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) are also accepted by both The Giving Block and Endaoment.
Crypto funding will help Sostento hit its next big milestone of operating health access rides in 75 locations across the United States. You can watch the below video short about one of our ride locations in Wisconsin, produced by Uber and featuring one of our partner clinics:
Follow Along and Amplify
Sostento will be telling stories of impact as we use crypto to scale healthcare access communities across the United States. I’ll be posting regularly on LinkedIn and tweeting from time to time on X. You can help spread the word. Post it to your socials or send it to someone who might be in a position to help. Stay tuned because we’ll have partnership announcements, project updates, and much more in the weeks and months ahead. Let’s. Go.
